Here’s a treat Ted and I have been enjoying lately, a mix of rye whiskey and ginger liqueur. It seems absolutely right for the wintry weather.

Love Isn’t Selective: Christmas Joy on Death Row
Ted and I made a donation through our church this past Christmas to New Hope House, which has offered support and hospitality for Georgia’s death row prisoners and their families since 1988. We had no idea what a moving experience it would be.
Mike and Ted’s Stack: Good Books for 2022
My first read of the new year. A wonderful novel that imagines what might have happened to three lighthouse keepers who disappeared from a remote sea-washed lighthouse in the outer Hebrides in 1900. What’s on your reading list for 2022?

My Husband Bakes, Too
Every Christmas, Ted bakes eight dozen snickerdoodles for our nieces and nephews and their families in North and South Carolina. (It’s enough for us to have a few extras. Cue the smiley face.) He’s continuing a tradition begun by his mother, who baked these yummy vanilla-laced and cinnamon-coated cookies every year. Read on for the recipe.
A Happy Advent Sunday, Jitters and All
Ted and I agreed to light the third Advent candle this past Sunday at our Presbyterian church in downtown Atlanta. Easy peasy, we thought.
Because of travel, we had missed the previous two candle lightings. But when I viewed the video of one of the services, panic set in. This was a more complicated ceremony than the one at our former church in the northeast Georgia mountains. Way. More. Complicated.
Titles Are Hard. Mine Took Several Tries.
My publisher suggested the current title for my book, THE WAY FROM ME TO US. I had had several working titles, but it took the team at Riverdale Avenue Books to capture the essence of my story in a few words. Here are details of the process.
