We traveled light. When we said goodbye to the U.S. and flew to Portugal last week, we didn’t have much with us, so we’ve spent our first few days here stocking up on the essentials.
And now that we have some of those items and a rainy morning perfect for accomplishing indoor chores, we began the settling-in process … and took a moment to “say hey” from our new home in Porto, Portugal’s second largest city.
We offer our first impressions in the short video below.
There is so much more to see and do!
We’ve only just begun, as Karen Carpenter would say. More chores, yes, things like getting our Portuguese phone numbers and buying sheets and securing public transportation passes, but also more time simply appreciating the architecture and the culture and the people and the history of Portugal. The calm beauty of the Douro River as it spills into the Atlantic Ocean, and the six awesome bridges that span it.
But we’ll get to those things in good time.

The street where we live, Rua Adolfo Casais Monteiro, named after the anti-fascist poet, journalist and editor who was exiled to Brazil in the 1950s …

… and Ted keeping his sense of humor while tracking down our Uber driver after a long shopping trek through town.
As I said, we’ve barely scratched the surface.
And we look forward to sharing more of our new adventures with you.
