Vlog #2: A Sunny Day in Spain

A gorgeous morning enticed us to hike up to Alicante’s top tourist attraction, the medieval fortress Castillo de Santa Barbara, perched 160 meters above the city and the sea. Our 59-second video tells more.

The Castillo is a good hour’s climb up the mountain that towers over downtown Alicante. Here’s Ted under the brilliant Don Quixote sun.

Entering the fortress gates.

Made it to the top! (If you prefer, you can take an elevator or a tram to the fortress. There is a way for everyone to enjoy it.)

The view of the Mediterranean on a day like this is spectacular.

The city-side view from the fortress.

School kids were enjoying the sunshine, too … after a week of rain.

Once off the mountain, it was time for lunch in town. They make the most beautiful salads here! This one had avocados, pine nuts, and orange vinaigrette dressing.

We began our day on the subway to the Castillo from this stop on Avenida del General Marvá in our lively neighborhood. It’s only two stops away from the mountain.

Best of all, Ted’s injured knee held up through a fairly strenuous hike. But we did take a taxi home from lunch. And now it’s time for some R&R (rest and reading).

Thanks for viewing our Vlog #2 from this amazing city!
