A guest at one of our recent book events wrote an email review that I received today. It’s so lovely that I’m going to quote from it here. Why so special?
It hits at the heart of what I tried to do in my book: Tell a story about ordinary people who struggled with coming out and building a life together in a different era.
Here’s a portion of it:
“I really wasn’t expecting anything extraordinary when I started reading your life story but was certainly interested in taking a look at it. After reading a few pages, I found I was pleasantly surprised. I was already absorbed in the little details of your journey. I thought to myself, He’s writing about ordinary people, ordinary events and ordinary places which I can identify with but at the same time he has his own story to tell; it’s engaging; it’s moving, and it’s heartwarming. And as my late life partner, an English professor and writer and editor of books, used to say, ‘Every life is worth a book.’ No matter how uneventful or supposedly uncharmed somebody’s life might be, there’s a story worth relating if told through the right hands–a writer’s hands.”
I’ll just leave this beauty right here. With my humble thanks.
And a wish to read your story sometime, too.
Note: The photo is from our August 4, 2024, event at the NewSouth Bookstore in Montgomery, Alabama.
